Mike Scherago's practice focuses on the prosecution and defense of commercial and business litigation claims, and business transactions. He primarily represents general contractors, subcontractors and material suppliers, as well as business entities outside of the construction industry. Mr. Scherago is expert in the handling of California and Federal job rights claims.
Mr. Scherago graduated from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1990, and Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1993. While in law school, Mr. Scherago served as the Senior Note and Comment Editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review and as a member of the Joseph Scott Moot Court Honors Board. As a member of the Honors Board, Mr. Scherago and his team took First Place Best Brief honors at the Roger M. Traynor California Moot Court Competition. He also was a Judicial Extern for the Hon. Samuel L. Bufford of the United States Bankruptcy Court.
After graduation, Mr. Scherago spent four years as a civil litigator before joining Gibbs, Giden, Locher & Turner LLP in 1997. He practiced construction and business litigation there for ten years before he and Jim formed Lipschultz & Scherago LLP in 2007. Mr. Scherago has presented numerous seminars to audiences comprising all facets of the construction industry and on a variety of subjects, ranging from creditors' rights and enforcing and defending job rights claims, to the impact of privacy laws on the business community. Mr. Scherago has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at California State University, Los Angeles, and an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Law at Loyola Law School.
